We all have great stories about our theatrical experiences so now it's time to share.
1) What was the first play you ever did? What role/job?
I think it was my fourth grade play, "Jackie and the Beanstalk." I was Swindler #1 and had to perform a rap about magic beans. "These beans, great beans, strong beans, fine beans... these ain't has beans, these are BEST beans..." etc. There's more. LOL.
2) What was your most recent show? What job/role?
Last show I did was "Reefer Madness" at Whole Art, playing Sally. Messy. A lot of falling down.
3) What was your most fun show/role?
Probably Peter Pan. Flying was hard work (much harder than it looks) but overall, I had sooooooooo much fun with the role and the people.
4) What was your most challenging show/role?
All of my American Eagle Productions shows in Chicago. Yes, they were children's theatres. But we didn't have rehearsals, just got a script and a video and sometimes a vocal tape if you asked nicely. You rehearsed by yourself for a week or two, learning dances and blocking off of the video and music from your vocal tape. Then you went on with the cast and the first time you ever did it with them was the first time you did it in front of an audience. Not to mention the added bonus of it being a tour, thereby always being in a new locale. Yikes. I learned a lot.
5) What is the most bizarre show or role you've ever done?
Hard to pick. Mary Ingalls in that redunkulous production of "Independence Day" is up there, pretending to be blind ("Sage!" "Onions!") was pretty funny.
6) Has anyone ever written a show for you?
My friend Neeley wrote a monologue with me in mind in college for her one-act play. I think it was about a jock getting her period for the first time. LOL, yup, that's me!
7) Have you ever gotten romantically involved with a co-star?
Eh, just Michael. LOL! We met during "Zombie Prom" in November of '05 and here we are.... still dating! :)
8) Have you ever quit a show to accept a better one?
In fifth grade I quit "Once Upon A Pea" at my elementary school (I think I was a dancer in the "My Perogative" dance and don't ask me what that has to do with "Princess and the Pea") to be in "Really Rosie" for CYT. I was pretty excited to be in a CYT show, that was a big deal.
9) Have you ever completely blown character on stage?
oh yeah. AEP was not necessarily professional for being technically professional. we were often breaking character. like that time dan was singing "come out and play" as ethel merman in a tigger suit. ot when i suddenly forgot aaaaaaall the words to a becky thatcher song and keith did not help... just humming and laughing at me. super.
10) What show are you just dying to do?
Hmm. I would like to play the Narrator in "Joseph". I'm excited about "Ragtime", it's been on the list for a long time. There are plenty of shows I'd like to do, but I think I have done a lot of my dream shows. I've been lucky. I'd like to do "Parade", someone do it!
11) Have you ever done one of your "dream" shows?
Title role in "Peter Pan". Audrey in "Little Shop". Star To Be in "Annie", but I'd like to play Hannigan when I'm old enough.
12) Who was your favorite director?
Ben, Randy, Roy Hine, Kathy Mulay
13) Who was your least favorite director?
Elbows McCokeySnort (for Bill)
14) What is the most surprising role you have ever been offered?
Ariel in "Footloose" for me, too. That was totally out of my comfort zone of what I usually did, and I think the director's took a chance on me and I appreciated that. I have not been able to shake the "sexy blonde" since, which is ridiculous considering how unsexy I consistently feel, lol.
15) Have you ever injured yourself onstage?
Ugh, the busted foot in "Reefer" was the worst, having to dance on that foot was nooooooooooot fun. The whole night was a blur.
16) Have you ever worked on an original play?
Just Neeley's piece. I would love to do a Late Night next year, though.
17) What show have you done multiple times?
i don't like to do shows twice. technically i did "annie" twice- was in it once, and directed it once.
18) Have you ever done different adaptations of the same show?
nope.
19) What roles do you usually get?
sluts. lots of sluts. and the occasional 10-yr-old boy.
20) Have you ever had an onstage kiss?
ugh, yes.
21) What was your scariest moment in a show?
again, busting my foot in "Reefer" was scary. didn't know what was wrong with it, it was soooooooo painful. also, that time hannah schubs bit the big one during "footloose" rehearsal, i thought she broke her neck. that time katie bit the big one jumping off the bridge in "footloose" was uber-scary too.
22) What is your best show memory?
So many good ones. Finale of "Fiddler" in '97. "Footloose" with all of my friends. "Little Shop" and "Peter Pan" were soooooooooooo much fun.
23) What is your worst show memory?
My dad died halfway through rehearsals for "Guy and Dolls" in high school. I did the show anyways, but that was a tough time.
24) Have you ever pulled a prank on someone in a show?
I think AEP was one big prank. I remember one time we decided I was going to play the baby spider instead of... i think Bill. Anyway, i thought dan was going to totally lose it, because he was not-so-good with not breaking onstage.
25) Have you ever been the recipient of a prank during a show?
Again. AEP. We were so bored with the mundane children's shows we just kinda messed around. Very professional.
You know what makes me crazy about my job?
Pop Tarts. Delicious Pop Tarts. Kinds you've never heard of because they are not in stores yet.
Like half strawberry/half blueberry. And Hot Chocolate, which I think is in stores now. And my new fave- Gingerbread. Yummy.
So now I need to resist because I want to lose 20 pounds this summer for "Ragtime". Can I do it? Maybe.
If I stay away from Pop Tarts.
until later...
